13 guy tourney on sunday... I won... split was roughly 60%, 30%, 10%.
I was getting widdled down when another short stack made a small raise and it folded to me with pocket 10's I went all in and ended up against the other short stack who I had covered by 1 small chip... he had A9 suited. My tens held up. This gave me just about $1800 in chips and we started with 1500. A few hands later I was in the big blind and it folded to the small who put a raise to 3x the big blind. I am a very tight player or at least percieved as the tightest player. People also know I won't usually call a bet if I don't hit part of the flop or some draw. I rarely am one to call a bet chaising over cards with others to act behind me. So people like to bluff me and people like to try to steal my blinds. This particular guy loves to bully me. The first few times I played with these guys I didn't know how to deal with it and ended up getting all in with a marginal hand because I was sick of getting pushed around.
Anyways I now let these guys bluff at me and fold unless I have them beat. The thing is they bluff too much so I shouldn't try to make them bluff less as that would make them bluff the proper amount. I should encourage their bluffing so they bluff way too much.
Ok back to the hand. I had 45 clubs... I like medium low connectors in this situation... well I hit the mother load! Flop A 2 3 rainbow. He didn't even hesitate... he bet about 80% of the pot! I thought... and thought... counted my chips... which they love to point out that when I count my chips I always fold... I was hoping someone would point that out again...
I was looking to see if he was nervous or anxious... did he want me to fold or want me to go all in. I was going all in... I just wanted to see if I was right about if he would call me. I decided he looked anxious and it wasn't anything he could control. I put him on AK AJ.. So I said... "I'll... hmm... I'll put you all in" with out looking left right up down anywhere I just sat very still. He thought for about 2 seconds and said call and energetically fliped his A 3 saying two pair. I paused and said oh. Then slowly fliped my 45. He was not happy and said... "you called my raise with that!"... I replied, "I figured I bust you if I hit." ... he said "You were right!"
Not the best play by me but... I figured I had to let people know they couldn't steal my blinds... I now had just short of $4000 but I stayed in call and check mode for a little while. The table slowed down after the two hyper-agressive players got knocked out and then I shifted gears and way loosened up my starting requirements and bluffed a times on the flop to take down some more small pots.
Then Ian, the brother of the hyper-aggressive blind stealer I took out with my miracle 45 went all in against me twice in a short period of time on the river when I had top pair with a good kicker and he had me just about covered. This made him the clear chip leader.
Down to 4, hand comes down with a preflop raise 3 in, not the chip leader though. The flop is Ac Jc 6d and I have (kc Qc) ... giving me a staight draw and a flush draw. First to act goes all in second guy goes all in with a couple extra chips... and I am getting 2:1 on my money... and I have 9flush outs and 3 straight outs... 12 outs with two cards to come is just under 50% chance of hitting I should call.. BUT someone is going out here and that would put me in the money... but if I call I have both covered... it will only cost me 1/3 of my chips and if I win I will be heads up and the chip leader... "CALL"
I didn't hit... but I switched gears and got agressive until I was even with the chip leader again then slowed down and caught... K8 and the flop came 10 8 8 ... the blinds where huge and he put in a preflop raise so the pot was already about 1/4 our stacks... he went all in... I called and won.
